We’re reaching out to inform you that the sunset date for Wowza Player, Wowza GoCoder, and the Wowza Ultra Low Latency (ULL) Service in Wowza Streaming Cloud has been extended from January 5, 2021, to August 31, 2021. If you’re a current Wowza Player, Wowza GoCoder, or Wowza ULL customer, no action is needed on your part at this time.
By postponing the sunset of these products, all of your licensed software, services, and streams will continue to operate as they currently do, without interruption, until and beyond the previous sunset date. Support will continue to be available for any assistance you may need, and all billing plans will remain unchanged.
More Information
On April 2, 2020, Wowza announced plans to sunset Wowza Player, the Wowza GoCoder SDK, and the Wowza ULL service in Wowza Streaming Cloud. At the time of the announcement, the intention was to conclude the sunset process on January 5, 2021. Since then, we’ve been listening to customers about their migration needs and timing, and we’ve been monitoring the evolution of the open low-latency standards we’re adopting in place of ULL. The outcome is clear:
Customers need additional time to move off of ULL.
Low-Latency HLS (LL-HLS), a critical piece of Wowza’s overall low-latency strategy, is still early in the adoption phase, and we want to ensure that our customers (and yours) have enough time to fully test and adopt it prior to migrating.
Given these two factors, we believe that delivering a great, fully functional low-latency solution to our customers—but only when they are ready to move—is in their best interest. Consequently, we've decided to delay the sunset.
Low latency remains a key part of Wowza’s overall strategy, and the availability of technologies such as LL-HLS, WebRTC, and Secure Reliable Transport (SRT) remain a high priority. WebRTC and SRT are currently available across the Wowza portfolio, and they’re being used successfully by Wowza customers to deliver their low-latency streams to viewers. In addition to WebRTC and SRT, LL-HLS is now available in Wowza Streaming Engine, our on-premise or cloud-hosted video server software. The addition of LL-HLS in Wowza Streaming Cloud is now planned for the second half of 2021, which is when we expect the technology to have matured sufficiently and have broader industry adoption.
We’ll be providing updates in the months ahead as we move closer to the new sunset date. Please stay tuned. And if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask. As always, we want to thank you for being a Wowza customer. We appreciate your business and look forward to helping you reliably deliver exciting live content and experiences to your viewers worldwide.
